nThe MK22 is chambered in 7.62 x 51 NATO, .300 Norma Magnum (NM) and .338 NM. These models come only in one color: Coyote, which is a slightly warmer, more reddish tan than FDE. The Cerakote swathes the receiver, handguard and stock’s metal bits while all else remains black.

nThe MK22 is sculpted from one end to the other. The front has a two-chamber high-efficiency muzzle brake. The match grade barrel is fluted along its length. The fluting adds surface area for heat dissipation and decreases weight.

nThe handguard is simply an extension of the upper receiver, which Barrett terms a monolithic upper receiver. It’s made of 7000-series aluminum. Each MRAD MK22 variant has a full-length 21.75” Picatinny top rail and M-LOK ovals along the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock surfaces. You get three accessory rails and two sling mounts to attach to them. A black folding bipod is also standard.

nThe handguard is also perforated by ovoid lightening cuts on the diagonal surfaces. It looks great and saves weight. The precise MK-22 bolt movement is housed in a polymer guide and the 45-degree throw is via a spherical bolt knob. The two-position safety is ambidextrous as it can be installed on either side.

nThe lower receiver (grip) has a part-waffle pattern around the relief cut magwell that matches the relief cut waffle pattern on the magazines. The trigger guard is oversized. The trigger in single-stage and non-adjustable. The ambidextrous paddle mag release is nestled between the magwell and the trigger guard. The trigger group is designed for easy removal for easy maintenance. The M4/M16-type pistol grip is black, textured on both sides and horizontally serrated in front and back. It also has a storage compartment.

nThe stock folds to the right. It shares the same aesthetic in color and style as the receiver/grip/handguard. It is highly skeletonized and has both an adjustable black polymer cheek riser and adjustable length of pull thick black rubber butt pad. The thought Barrett designed into this gun is manifest in small touches like the numbers engraved at the cheek rest riser posts. These make it easy to remember a favorite setting. The cheek rest is reversible with two different cheek profiles.

nWhile there is plenty to soak in with the gun’s engineering and architecture, the overall effect is feature rich, intuitive and functional.

nThe 7.62 x 51 NATO is the smallest and lightest of the bunch. Its 20” barrel has a 1:8” twist ratio, so each shot rotates 2.5 times before exiting. The 7.62 has a 42.4” overall length. Weight is 13.9 pounds.

nThe .300 NM has a 26” barrel with a 1:8” twist ratio, 48.4” overall length and weighs 15.2 pounds.

nFinally, the longest is the .338 NM. It sports a 27” barrel, is 49.4” long overall and weighs 15.2 pounds. Compared to the two others, it has a slightly slower 1:9.4” twist.
